Position Summary:

TESAT Gov (an Airbus U.S. subsidiary) is looking for a driven multidisciplinary Systems Engineer (Space) that will contribute towards the development and integration of optical communication systems for space applications. The ideal candidate will excel at this role if they have experience in satellite communications systems, electronics hardware development, and integration activities.

Position Responsibilities

As a Systems Engineer, you will be contributing to the development of TESAT Gov's Optical Communication Terminal (OCT) programs based on TESAT-Spacecom (subsidiary of AIRBUS) technologies. The Systems Engineer will conduct technical assignments and support the completion of projects while working closely with programmatic leadership, technical experts, engineering peers, and the customer. Expect to be involved in the full lifecycle of development, from requirements definition through integration and operations, deriving technical approaches to challenging problems with support, and communicating technically complex information in a succinct and concise manner.

Systems Engineering: 75%

  • Communicate and collaborate with program and system engineers, internally and externally, to accomplish technical programmatic and internal objectives for optical communication payloads for space-based applications.
  • Develop plans to successfully delivery space qualified hardware for space vehicle programs.
  • Perform all the necessary systems engineering activities to develop, maintain and evolve OCT products, including requirements development, verification, validation, test planning, test execution, and operations.
    • Experience with the fundamentals of engineering planning, scheduling, and discrete task development.
    • Ability to drive multiple technical activities across multiple programs.
    • Ability to develop technical solutions and plans in support of program and internal objectives.
  • Support TESAT Gov's OCT development product roadmap by conducting trade studies and analytical efforts to develop new solutions and optimize cost savings through design modifications.

Additional Responsibilities: 25%

  • Contribute to proposals in support of capturing new opportunities.
  • Assist with the creation of engineering and production documentation, processes, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or related scientific areas.
  • Preferred: Master's in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or related scientific areas.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years with a Bachelor's degree, or 1 years with a Master's degree.
  • Proven track-record of working with spacecraft hardware and/or satellite systems, starting from conceptual designs and tradeoffs thru detailed design, development, manufacture, integration, test, deployment, and operations.
  • 1 years of space hardware-related engineering experience pertaining to the:
    • Spacecraft electronics hardware
    • Definition, development, and delivery of space qualified hardware.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • Demonstrated experience with systems architecture, requirements definition and decomposition, and requirements verification and validation (e.g. Requirements Verification and Traceability Matrices)

  • Up to 25% Domestic and International

Clearance:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government security clearance
  • Active DoD security clearance at Secret or above is highly desirable

Nature of Contacts:

Role includes involved communication with internal and external parties on a frequent basis.

Physical Requirements:

  • Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents.
  • Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 40lbs/9kg.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 40lbs/9kg.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.
  • Standing: able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Walking: able to walk through office and outside areas including uneven surfaces.
